Obituary of Dorothy M. Ruby
RUBY, Dorothy of Saginaw, passed away on July 8, 2014 at Saginaw, MI. Dorothy Margaret Anna Licht was born May 8, 1924 in Oliver Township, Huron County, Michigan, daughter of Fred and Marie (Bergman) Licht. She graduated from Elkton High School in 1941, and Cleary College in Ypsilanti, Michigan in 1943. She was employed with the U.S. Engineers Office at Willow Run, King Seeley Corporation at Ann Arbor. Then, after being a full-time homemaker for 20 years, she returned to work five years at Michigan Children’s Aid Society in Port Huron, and 10 ½ years with the State of Michigan Vocational Rehabilitation Services in Bay City, retiring in 1982. Following retirement, she and her husband moved to Arizona, returning to Michigan in 1998. She volunteered at the American Cancer Society and the Lutheran Ministries of the Southwest in Arizona, and at the Action Thrift Store in Saginaw.
She was married to John W. Ruby on December 25, 1944 in Pigeon, Michigan. He survives her. Dorothy and John had five children: daughter, Patricia Ruby-Douglass, who preceded her in death; three sons: Douglas J. (Mary Beth Moore) Ruby, of Washington D.C., Timothy J. (Ruth) Ruby, of Saginaw, and Donald P. Ruby, of St. Charles, Iowa, and one daughter, Debra J. Ruby, of Saginaw; son-in-law, Richard Douglass, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; seven grandchildren: Heather (Tom), Elly (Marty), Katherine, Alex, Sydney, Kyle, and Phillip; and one great grandchild, Patricia Grace Jordan.
She is also survived by a brother and a sister, Ray (Elaine) Licht, of Pigeon, Michigan and Gertrude Stecker, of Midland; and 15 nieces and nephews. A sister, Frieda Heintz and a brother, Edwin Licht; and her parents preceded her in death.
