Dorothy M. Maes, 95, of Jacksonville, IL passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in Springfield, IL.
She was born May 24, 1915 in Aurora, IL; the daughter of M. Kenneth and Lola Haley Guyton. She married Carl G. Maes and he preceded her in death in 1988. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia S. Gibbs; her son, James M. Shannon; her twin sister, Winifred Zopf; and a great grandson, Kory Gibbs.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Sylvia Shannon of Brandywine, MD; six grandchildren, David Gibbs of Orlando, FL, Stuart Gibbs of Springfield, Joanne (Craig) Costello of Auburn, Dina Whetstone of Springfield, and Scot Shannon and Tami (Russell) Hammett, all of Maryland; and nine great grandchildren.
Dorothy worked for the Jacksonville Journal-Courier as the Society Editor, retiring after over 40 years of service. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her love of animals.
