Dorothy Mae (Bradshaw) Coleman-Lewis was born on April 3, 1948, to the Reverend Aaron and Lois Bradshaw, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the youngest of four children and the only daughter of their union.
Dorothy matriculated through Indianapolis public schools and was a proud Shortridge High School “Blue Devil”. Dorothy always valued education and was a very intelligent student. She proudly graduated a year early with the Shortridge High School Class of 1965. Dorothy attended Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, and the Indiana College of Business and Technology, Indianapolis, Indiana.
In 1968, the Reverend R. H. Peoples, united Dorothy and Edgar R. Coleman in Holy Matrimony and to this union was born their daughter, Yvette Michelle. Edgar preceded her in death. Later, Dorothy was united in marriage to Roosevelt Lewis and to this union was born their son, Andre’ Lamont. Dorothy loved her children unconditionally and they loved her with their whole hearts. She was their first teacher and best friend here on earth. She always reminded them to love God first and trust in the Word of God, always.
Dorothy confessed Christ at an early age.
Dorothy was employed by the State of Indiana, ASGCI, EDS, and HP. During her tenure with each employer, she developed and maintained several life-long relationships. Her sense of humor and warm spirit caused others to gravitate to her.
Dorothy loved her family! She was very wise, discerning, resourceful, and loyal. There was nothing that she would not do for her family. To her grandchildren, she was EVERYTHING! She taught them to love the Lord, do your best in school and leave your mark on this world by being amazing, kind and loving. She was not just this way with her grandchildren, but also with her nieces, nephews, and younger cousins. Dorothy was a secret-keeper, a sounding board, and a source of sage advice. She was a giver that had a heart of gold.
Dorothy departed this life and entered into eternal life on Friday, June 7, 2019, at 2:46 p.m. surrounded by her loving daughter and family. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Aaron and Lois (Hill) Bradshaw; her husband, Edgar R. Coleman; her son, Andre Lamont Lewis, and brothers, Odell and Arnell Bradshaw.
She leaves to love and cherish her beautiful memory forever, one daughter, Rev. Yvette M. Coleman-Foreste; four grandchildren, Justin and Lauryn Foreste and Aaron and Airika Lewis; one special daughter, Marie Coleman; one brother, Charles E.
