She was born in Virginia, and blessed with the name Dorothy, which means “Gift of God”. Her childhood was spent in the Carolinas. She met the love of her life, H. T. Goodman in Sumter, South Carolina. They were high school sweethearts. She graduated high school early, at the age of sixteen to enter nursing school. She became a Registered Nurse. In 1946 she married H.T., and they headed west to California.
Long Beach, California became their home, where they raised their three children. Dottie’s vibrant personality served as a magnet for bringing people together. Her social gatherings and events, charities, golf, bridge groups, attending theater productions H.T. performed in, and hosting MusiCal parties with the theater group.
Family celebrations were extra special and beautiful, created by her love, dedication, and efforts. Whenever her nursing skills, knowledge, and wisdom were needed by friends or family, she was there to help. She loved travelling, and later in life, organized travel adventures in her community. Dottie was truly a loyal wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Dottie will be missed, but heaven is shining a bit brighter now with the light of her joyous spirit.
