COLUMBIANA – Dorothy Longley Zimmerman, age 93, died at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Whispering Pines Village in Columbiana. She was born February 7, 1925, the daughter of the late James and Hjordes (Nelson) Longley.

Dorothy worked for 12 years as a paraprofessional educator in the basic learning skills development program for the Salem school system. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salem. Dorothy was a graduate of Simmon’s College and elected to Who’s Who in American College. She was a board member of the YWCA, a board member of the Butler Institute of American Art, a member of the American Field Service, president and member of the board of Managers of Century House. Dorothy was a leader of the Campfire Girls and Girl Scouts, a volunteer for A.I.D. and voted Woman of the Year by the Salem YWCA.

Her husband, Henry E. Zimmerman, whom she married November 27, 1948 preceded her in death on August 17, 2017.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffery (Kathleen Boyle) Zimmerman of Salem and Peter Nelson (Sandrah Mack) Zimmerman of Missoula, MT; two daughters, Stephanie (Robert) Field of Salem, Ohio and Ann Longley Zimmerman of Falls Church, VA; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

A sister, Margaret Longley Hackett also preceded her in death.
