Dorothy Konopka – Lived, laughed and loved.Dorothy (Dot) struggled for almost twenty years with Alzheimer’s Disease. Through those years, she lost everything – friends, relatives, material possessions, her “self”, and finally, her life. It’s time to reflect and celebrate how she lived her life – with authenticity, compassion and most of all – a joi de vivre. Dorothy Durden was born on November 2, 1924, in Coldwater, Mississippi. She moved to Connecticut, fell in love, and married Stanley Konopka when they were both 22 years old. They were told they could not have children, but eleven years later, to their surprise, came their only child, a daughter – Judy. Dot was fun to be with and always had an open mind. With her adventurous spirit, she dreamed of traveling the world and her favorite spots always included the ocean (a girl from Mississippi needed that). She loved to laugh and people loved to be around her. She was curious about everything, and had a quick mind for numbers, which was something she did not pass on (but Lord knows, she tried). She was poised, bright, and playful. Stanley admired and loved her with all his heart until his death in 1982 from legacy are the many lives she touched, and a proud daughter who now understands the sacrifices she made, the breadth of her compassion, love and understanding, and the strength it took to be the beautiful and amazing person she was. Her spirit, once again is free and unbound by the sickness she endured for so many years.
