Dorothy Jane Potts, August 17, 1926 – May 7, 2012.
Dorothy Jane Daniel Potts, age 85, of Belton, beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Potts died Monday in a Belton nursing home. She was born August 17, 1926 to Edwin Fincher and Jessie Daniel. She graduated from Academy/Little River schools and was a cheerleader and valedictorian of her class. Following high school graduation she attended Southwestern University in Georgetown before transferring to Mary Hardin Baylor, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree.
She taught home economics for many years with Salado and Belton school districts before getting her Master’s Degree in counseling from Texas A&M University in College Station. She continued her career as a school counselor, working as a Career Counselor at Belton High School and as an elementary counselor with the Belton Independent School District. Everyone who knew Dot’ loved her, and she had friends of all ages from all walks of life. A tireless worker, she worked as a school counselor until age 79. Her professional career spanned 40 years. She was an expert seamstress, and an avid gardener who worked tirelessly in many civic and church organizations. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Belton. She made an indelible mark on all who met her; her spirit of fun and adventure and her love of people were matched by her compassion and her generosity. She married Arthur Neale Potts, Sr. on August 27, 1948 in Belton.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Arthur Neale Potts, Sr., former owner of Potts Brothers Hardware Store in Belton and an active civic leader. She is also survived by three sons; Arthur Neale Potts, Jr., of Belton, Terry Daniel Potts, of Salado, and David Roy Potts, of Belton, and their wives. Additional survivors include a sister, Diane Munger of Atlanta, GA and 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren as well as a host of friends and relatives.
