Dorothy Jane Crooks Steiner Graves, 91, took the hand of Jesus on September 1, 2021, and is happily settled in her mansion! ‘This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.’ (Psalms 118:24) was Dorothy’s favorite verse, and surely she is rejoicing now. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her presence in heaven is cause to rejoice.
Dorothy was born in Smicksburg (Home) PA on July 20, 1930, to Jesse Merle and Edith Erma Eakman Crooks, who preceded her in death, along with her brother James Simon Monroe Crooks (and wife Dolly) and sister Hazel Leone Crooks Cornman (and husband Eugene). She is survived by her sister Joan (Clifford) Griffith of Smicksburg.
She was married on September 11, 1948, to Clifford Allen Steiner, of Greensburg, PA, who preceded her in death in 1985. She is survived by two daughters, Marge Burke of Greensburg and Kathleen (Paul) Eisaman, also of Greensburg.
After Clifford’s death, she married John R Graves Sr, who passed away on June 4, 2021. Dorothy is survived by two step-sons: John R. (Bobbie) Graves Jr of Albion; James A (SJ) Graves of Taylor SC; and three step-daughters: Judy A Hornstrom of Erie, Barbara L (Kent) Barron of Lake City, and Dorothy J (Steve) Szymczak of Barboursville VA. Also surviving are a combined 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was most recently a member of the Keepville Bible Church, Albion PA. She was well-known throughout the community for her kind, sweet spirit and her devotion to her family and friends. She was committed to living for the Lord, and shared His love in some way every day.
