  • Date Of Death: March 5, 2014

Dorothy Irene Hamlin, 82, of Walker, Minnesota, passed away peacefully in the care of her family, on Wednesday, March 5, 2013.  She was the only daughter born to Alfred and Marjorie Oberley on January 3, 1932 in Deerfield Township, Michigan.  Marjorie passed away when Dorothy was only 3 years old.  After that Alfred married Edna Farnum who loved and mothered the three children as her own.

Dorothy enjoyed the spring of the year when all living things started to come to life.  This meant that the ground would have to be worked up and prepared for yet another award winning, extra-large vegetable garden.  Most of the time almost weedless, but not quite, because that gave her a reason to go out to the garden, get down on her hands and knees to pull those weeds.  She really enjoyed gardening and the fruits of her labor which she always shared with others.  When Dorothy wasn’t working at her job or gardening she enjoyed fishing, swimming and walking in the woods.  One of her favorite hobbies was walking the gravel shoulder of the highway or a gravel pit looking for agates.  She enjoyed baking bread, cookies, cakes and large full course meals.  Dorothy loved entertaining and cooking for guest and family when they came.  You never left hungry when at the Hamlin house.  When fall came she always looked forward to deer hunting. She loved hunting but didn’t care for early mornings, so mainly hunted in the afternoon and evening.  She didn’t always shoot a deer but always enjoyed her time in the deer stand watching the wildlife and enjoying all of God’s creation.

As you can tell she just totally and truly enjoyed life.

Passing on before Dorothy was her husband Gerald Hamlin, her parents; Alfred, Marjorie and Edna, her son Eddie Hamlin and her brothers; Bart Allen Oberley and Gordon Oberley.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her son; Arthur and his wife Cheryl (Kay) Hamlin of Walker, three grandchildren; Karla and her husband Ron Johnson, Cassie Hamlin and Amanda and her husband Chris Helmbrecht, six great-grandchildren; Cheyenne, Kianna, Emily, Kaleb, Lydia and Anna, sisters-in-law; Jackie Oberley of Denver, CO and Ceile Oberley of New Prague, her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
