Dorothy E. Holmes, 97, of Country Meadows, Bethlehem, Pa., formerly of Washington, N.J. died Monday, Jan. 31, 2022 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus, Easton. She was the widow of Thomas R. Holmes and the former wife of Richard E. Matthews. Born January 20, 1925 in Allentown, PA, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Mark H. and Dorothy (Gehman) Young. She was a graduate of Allentown High School and the Allentown Hospital School of Nursing. Dorothy was a nurse at YMCA Camp Bernie, Port Murray, NJ; Washington Clinic, Washington, NJ; and Independence Township School, Independence Township, NJ. She also served on the school board, the Board of Health, was elected to the Independence Township Committee, was active in Girl Scouts, and was a member of the Lehigh Valley Scottish Society and Vice President of Clan Young of the Northeast Region.

Surviving family members are: Richard D. Matthews of Dover, Fla., Donald W. Matthews and his wife Diane of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; grandsons, Aaron Matthews, Corey Matthews, Samuel Matthews; great-grandchildren, Ivy Kretzer-Matthews, Nico Kretzer-Matthews; Bruce E. Holmes and his wife Diane of Cedar Falls, IA; grandchildren, Crystal (Holmes) Weber, Tahra (Holmes) Frampton; great-grandchildren, Abram Weber, George W. Frampton, Charles Frampton, Samuel Frampton, Thomas Kimm and Owen Frampton; and Deborah (Holmes) Arnold and husband David of Louisville, KY; and grandsons David Cooper and Jonathan Cooper.
