Dorothy Helen Dutko, 90, of Salem died at 8:40 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. She was born August 19, 1922 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Ben and Carolyn (Endres) Straub. She had been employed at Scott’s Candy for 15 years after being a homemaker for 22 years. She also worked at J. C. Penney’s and Woolworth’s in Salem after graduating high school in Leetonia, Ohio. Her husband of 45 years, Frank Lawrence Dutko, whom she married July 3, 1947, preceded her in death on July 28, 1992. Her sisters, Connie Dayton and Caroline Straub and a brother, “Barney” Straub also preceded her in death. Survivors included 3 sons, Thomas Dutko of Salem, Rich (Trish) Dutko and Jack (Lisa) Dutko both of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 5 daughters, Dorie Dutko of North Benton, Carrie (Del) McElrath of Southington, Ohio, Jeane Dutko (Larry) of Berlin Center, Patty (Charlie) Echols and Joan (James) Hilton both of Virginia Beach, Virginia and 5 grandchildren, Lindsey (Luie), Corey (Ryla), Lucas, Austin and Alyssa Dutko. Dorothy loved playing cards and bingo with her many friends. She loved to shop and volunteer her time as a secretary and President of the L.C.B.A. for 20 years. She was also a member and committee member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church for 65 years and supporter of St. Paul’s Catholic School where her eight children attended. She was a member of the Slovak Club Ladies Auxiliary. Delivering Meals on Wheels was a joy to her. Above all Dorothy was the best mother anyone could ask for; she and our father were the most unselfish people on the earth! She was an amazing and loving grandma.
