Dorothy Hazel Anderson Failor, 96, died Saturday March 16, 2013 at Heritage Manor  in Newton, under the care of Skiff Hospice.

Dorothy was born in Jasper County to Iver and Anna (Zieske) Anderson.  She later resided on a farm with her parents and where she was the farm hand.   Years later Dorothy married Woodrow Failor.   Woodrow and Dorothy had one daughter, Bonnie, and aunt and uncle Bessie and Arthur Zieske as their farm hand.

Her favorite hobby was baking.   She often baked something to take to her daughter and family.   The grandchildren have wonderful memories of their grandmother’s treats.  Dorothy was adventurous.  She would get in her car and drive somewhere.  She loved road trips as much as just running to the store.  Before Dorothy went to the nursing home, she would drive to the store and buy an onion, finally she had 30 onions in the crisper drawer.

Dorothy worked for 30 years at the Maytag Dairy Farm, then at Walmart as a greeter.

Those left to honor Dorothy’s memory are her daughter, Bonnie McGinley, and son-in-law Steven of Newton; her eight grandchildren, Cameron McGinley (Jill) of Pella, IA, Collette Holmquist of Orlando, FL, Clarissa Wing (Chris) of Newton, Cainan McGinley of Newton, Collin McGinley of Atlanta, GA, Coridan McGinley (Jennifer) of Johnston, IA, Caleb McGinley of Newton, and Craynes McGinley of Newton; and eight great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Wing, Breana Holmquist, Alixis  McGinley, Josie Holmquist, Ridge McGinley, Reid McGinley, Cade McGinley, and Clark McGinley.   She was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow  Failor; her parents Iver and Anna (Zieske) Anderson; siblings Genevieve Rose, Mable Carpenter, Lloyd Anderson, Imogene Van Maaren, Bertae Anderson, Betty Nichols, and Carl Anderson.
