Morton – Dorothy Ellen (Miller) Vallosio, 91, passed away into the loving arms of our heavenly Father surrounded by her family on Friday, December 7, 2018 in Morton.
She was born on January 2, 1927 to Wilbur Raymond and Lela (Hauk) Miller. After the death of her father, her mother married Fred Matthew. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert Miller and Roger Miller.
She married Pete Rocco Vallosio on June 11, 1950 and he survives. Other survivors include 3 children, Jeff (Carol) Vallosio and Greg (Pam) Vallosio all of Washington, IL and Ann Marie (Mike) Mohr of Morton, IL., 9 grandchildren; Jennifer (Tom) Felix, Jill (Dan) Vogel, Jonathan (Ashley) Vallosio, Erin, Elise and Erica Vallosio, Joshua (Anna) Mohr, Jeremy Mohr and Ashley Mohr; and 8 great grandchildren; Olivia, Ella, Jacob, Joel, and Josiah Felix, Katelyn and Isaiah Vogel and Lillian Mohr.
Dorothy graduated from Bradley University in 1949. She joined the sorority Delta Kappa, which later became Chi Omega and always treasured her lifelong college friendships. While at Bradley, she met the love of her life, Pete, who had returned from Europe after serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Pete spotted the “beautiful brunette”, Dorothy, almost immediately, and as they say, the rest is history. They enjoyed over 68 years of marriage and exemplified what God intended for marriage; a deep, loving devotion to one another in sickness and in health, selflessly putting the other person ahead of themselves and never failing to make each other laugh and smile. Losing her father and step father when she was only two and four, respectively, made her especially grateful to have Pete by her side. She made life fun and interesting, always teaching her children to “keep your sense of humor”. She had a deep sense of faith, family and friendship, always thinking of others before herself and loved giving gifts. She loved her family unconditionally and was always encouraging, supporting and praying for them and others. Dorothy was well read on many topics and submitted several published editorials to the paper over the years.
Dorothy taught for 21 years in Lombard, Farmington, Peoria and East Peoria mostly first and second grade. For many years, she sold World Book encyclopedias and worked as a realtor after retiring from teaching.
She volunteered throughout her life and was involved in Mother’s Club, held leadership positions in Women’s Club, RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program), PARTA (Peoria Area Retired Teachers’ Association) and was the Founder of Hit The Trail for Quayle Club.
As she grew more frail with age, she reflected on her life and reassured her family often by telling them she felt “very blessed” and had enjoyed “a good life”.
