Dorothy (Driftmier) Johnson
Dorothy (Driftmier) Johnson, 100, of Tecumseh, died May 26, 2014 in Tecumseh, NE. She was born to Martin and Leanna (Field) Driftmier on May 13, 1914 in Shenandoah, IA. Dorothy grew up in Shenandoah, Iowa. She attended Chadron State College in Chadron, NE until contracting Tuberculosis in 1933. For a year she recuperated at home and went on to receive a teaching endorsement.
Dorothy was married to Frank Johnson on Nov. 29, 1938. She taught in a rural school in Iowa for two years and also worked in the County Superintendent’s office. Dorothy and Frank briefly lived in California during WWII and both worked at Lockheed Aircraft.
They gave birth to a baby girl, Kristin, in 1942 in Hollywood, CA. After her birth, Frank and Dorothy settled back on the family farm in Lucas County, Iowa. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church in Lucas, Iowa.
Throughout her life, Dorothy helped her mother (Leanna Driftmier) and sisters Lucile and Margery with the Kitchen-Klatter Radio program and magazine. Frank passed away in 1990. Dorothy moved to Tecumseh, Nebraska in 2005. Dorothy was a member of P.E.O. for 82 years and a longtime Eastern Star member. In her spare time, Dorothy enjoyed sewing, reading, watching sports, playing cards, listening to music, especially big band music and jazz. She was quite a remarkable woman and she will be missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Kristin Brase and husband Arthur of Tecumseh, grandchildren, Andrew Brase of Chambers, Aaron Brase and wife Betsy of Wahoo, Julian Brase and wife Jennifer of Omaha and Elizabeth Brase of Omaha, great-grandchildren, Leanna, Justin, Blaise, Madison and John Brase and brother, Steven Driftmier of Denver, CO.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, sisters, Lucile Verness and Margery Strom and brothers, Howard, Donald and Frederick Driftmier.
