Dorothy M. “Dotty” Holycross Clauss, 93, of New Haven passed away Nov. 5, 2016 in Masonicare, Wallingford. She was the widow of Robert G. Clauss. Dorothy, popularly known as “Nonnie”, was born in Indiana on Aug. 22, 1923, daughter of the late Albert Holycross Sr. and Beatrice Parsons Holycross. She worked as a waitress at some of New Haven’s better known restaurants including Alberino’s Sleigh House in Hamden, the former Howard Johnson’s at Long Wharf, and Hy’s Village Restaurant on Whalley Ave. in Westville. More recently, she was a member of Orchard House in Branford.

She is survived by one son, Data Scientist Robert G. Clauss Jr. of Avon; a daughter, Rita J. (Gary) Chase of New Haven, with whom she resided; two brothers, Robert (Barbara) Holycross of Columbia, N.C. and Alfred (Judy) Holycross Jr. of Southington; one sister, Betty Ferrari of Naugatuck; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Donald F. and Charles P. Clauss and two brothers, Joseph and Harold Holycross.
