Dorothy Hawkins’ spirit left this world on Friday, November 26, 2021.
Upon retirement, she moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1987, where she became enthralled with Southwest colors, furniture, and crafts. She took woodworking classes and made Spanish Colonial furniture. In her workshop she made mirrors, boxes, menorahs, and all types of original and one-of-a-kind articles. She joined other artists in displaying their work at Yucca Gallery in Old Town.

Dorothy supported women’s rights and choice all her adult life. She was instrumental in creating housing for domestic violence victims when she lived in Alton, IL. She supported Planned Parenthood. She was an animal lover and adopted many rescue dogs during her lifetime.

Dorothy had a fully lived 93 years and will be missed by her children, Matthew and Martha Hawkins, her many friends, and by Marian Gardner, her partner of many years.
