PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS—Dorothy C. L’Homme, age 93, formerly ofLexington, MA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, at home. Born in Natick,MA, Dorothy grew up in nearby Stow where she quickly found her love for nature whileplaying outside in nearby fields with her sister, taking long walks, and skating on an early age Dorothy helped with her Dad’s farm and later their family business doingaccounting and office work. During WWII, she worked at Victory Plastics which mademany contributions to the war effort. After graduating from Hale High School, Dorothystudied business at Fisher Junior College in Boston. Over the years she held a varietyof customer service, retail, and business management 1949 Dorothy married Charles E. L’Homme, who also grew up in Stow. They latermoved to Lexington. Dorothy stopped working for several years to stay at home to raisetheir only child Melissa. She enjoyed helping her learn to read, playing games andnurturing her creative side. Dorothy was happy supporting activities for her family suchas hosting events for the Simmons College English Department (where Charles was aprofessor for many years) plus attending dance, music, and school events Melissa wasinvolved in.A woman with a kind heart, Dorothy spent much of her time in service to others. Shealways spoke happily about being a Girl Scout Summer Camp Director in Stow whereshe created a variety of fun and learning activities for young girls. Once she retired,Dorothy did a great deal of volunteer work for Lexington’s Field & Garden Club workingon town gardens, garden tours, and club meetings. While volunteering with theLexington Historical Society, she met people from all over the world who came to learnabout Lexington’s vast had an appetite for learning, taking advantage of opportunities in any form such asmuseums, classes, reading, watching the night sky and travel. Dorothy also had an eyefor light and color and her hobbies included photography, gardening, painting, sewing,and watching the ocean waves at her favorite beach. She also enjoyed baking, atradition she started with her mother and then carried on with her daughter Melissa. Onelong time tradition they shared was creating fabulous holiday cookie boxes leaves behind daughter Melissa M. L’Homme, goddaughter Elizabeth Crowell andbrother David Crowell. She was predeceased by her parents Ralph E. and Flora I.(Pettigrew) Crowell, sister Joyce M. Crowell and brother Ralph E. Crowell, visiting hours or service.
