WOODHAMS, Dorothy Anna Of Lake Placid, FL Formerly of Portage Passed away Sunday evening, April 5, 2009 in Lake Placid, FL. Dorothy was born May 11, 1918 in Kalamazoo the daughter of Frederick and Clara Boers Zuidema. She was and active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Placid, FL and attended Milwood Christian Reformed Church while in Michigan. Dorothy earned her private and commercial pilot’s license and along with her husband Irving owned and operated the Austin Lake Airport and Seaplane Base.
She participated in Powder Puff Derbies and SMALL Races, and was a member of the 99’s and the Aviatrix. She also enjoyed doing volunteer work for the Little Lambs Prison Ministry. On December 2, 1939 she was united in marriage to her loving husband of 53 years, Irving T. Woodhams, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Johanna Calloway, Berniece Zuidema; a brother, Leonard Mulder; and a step-daughter, June Rybnikar. Surviving is her daughter, Sharon John, Sr. Thomasma; step-children, Hazel Hurt, Irving “Ted” Betty Woodhams, Donald Dormah Woodhams; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
