On September 1st, with family by her bedside, Dorothy Ann “Dee” Van Aalsburg of Highlands Ranch lost her valiant and epic battle with cancer after successfully beating the disease for over a decade.
Dee was born on September 8th, 1950 to Frank Brookes “Bill” Hubachek Jr. and his wife, Imogene (Chancellor). She grew up on the North Shore of Chicago in the community of Glencoe and was a graduate of New Trier High School. Her summers were spent enjoying the Canadian Quetico on Basswood Lake (along the Minnesota border) and later Fall Lake (nicknamed “Mukluk” by family members) just outside Ely, MN.
She is celebrated and remembered for her abundant happiness, even in the most trying of times, and her ability to laugh (and make others laugh) in the face of adversity. All those that came in contact with her would agree that she made life that much brighter. Dee was a devout Christian and supporter of Billy Graham Ministries and various local charities – including the Salvation Army and the Denver Rescue Mission. She possessed a tremendous kindness for strangers and on numerous occasions she was even known to leave money or expensive gifts in public places for those individuals who were down on their luck.
Dee is survived by her loving and supportive husband of 33 years, Ted Van Aalsburg; cherished son Dillon W. Rasmussen (Tom Fox) and grandsons, Calvin and Oscar (18 months). Her younger brother Steve Hubachek (Julie) is also a resident of the Denver Metro Area (Thornton) and she is preceded in death by her older brother William “Billy” Hubachek who died at the age of 18 years old.
