Dorothy Ann Herbst Short was born in Denver, Colorado February 4, 1925 to Carl and Delphine Herbst (both deceased). She was the oldest child with one sister Geraldine Winegardner and one brother Carl Jr. (both deceased).

Dorothy attended South Denver High School and the University of Colorado in Boulder. Dorothy was a member of the Greatest Generation and so lived through many of the challenges of that time including the Depression and World War II.

She married in 1944 and had two children Roger (deceased) and Ronald. Dorothy loved being a mother and many of her activities revolved around her boys world of school and sports. After she won a trampoline from Anderson Toyland in 1960, the family home became an entertainment mecca for her boys’ friends; many of whom came to think of her as their second “Mom”.

She also was an avid gardener, volunteer and club member including the Stephen Knight PTA, Denver Garden Club, bridge club, sewing club (of which she described herself as an enthusiastic cheerleader because she did not sew) and was a loving member of the Alley Cats. Dorothy loved being a “Baby Whisperer” and managed the DAC nursery for several years.

Dorothy welcomed three grandchildren: Katherine, Sarah and Britten.
