Doris May Hoenge, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday September 6, 2014. Born in Newark, NJ, she was raised by her maternal grandmother, Petronella Jacobus, and grew up in Elizabeth, Pluckemin and Neptune City. She graduated from Asbury Park High School, where she met and later married the love of her life, Ambrose “Snook” Hoenge. Doris and Snook bought their first home in Manasquan, and then moved to Brielle, where they raised their 3 children. In addition to being a loving mother and homemaker, she worked as a dispatcher, Records Officer and coordinator of the Crime Prevention program for the Brielle Police Department.

Doris also served the community as an active member of the Brielle First Aid Squad, holding the offices of both President and Captain. A communicant of Manasquan United Methodist Church, she taught Sunday school there for many years. Always looking for the perfect home to suit their changing needs, the couple moved from Brielle to Point Pleasant Beach, then retired in Ocean Gate, and finally Toms River.

After 58 years of marriage, she is predeceased by Ambrose “Snook”. Surviving are her 3 children, Patricia Parsley of Lynchburg, VA, Peter Hoenge and his wife Robin of Point Pleasant, and John Hoenge and his wife Susan of Toms River, 12 grandchildren, Jon, Kassia, Christopher, Alissa, Joseph, Jessica, Allison, Stephanie, Carolyn, Joshua, Jane and Kelly, and also 12 great grandchildren.
