Doris York Maeser, 89, of Huntsville, AL, formerly of Newnan, GA, died August 25, 2012 at her daughter’s home. She was born July 24, 1923, in Gay, GA, the youngest of four children born to (Mannie) M.A. and Eva York. She graduated from Moreland High School and the Felt and Tarrent Comptometer School. She met Earl F. Maeser at a USO dance and they were married March 10, 1944 in Atlanta. After the war, they moved to Louisville, KY. In 1952, they returned to Georgia to be close to her parents. During the following years, they raised their four children, and Doris was a working mother balancing work, home, and civic responsibilities. She worked as a comptometer operator and instructor at Victor Comptometer Corp. She owned and operated Doris’ Flower Shop in Fairburn, GA from 1960 – 1967. She loved working with flowers and had a gift for their arrangement. From 1970 until her retirement in 1986, she worked at Newnan Hospital in the business office and as the switchboard operator. Doris was instrumental in establishing the PTA at Madras Elementary School and served as PTA President. In addition, she was actively involved in promoting extracurricular activities to support the growth and development of the students. Doris was a member of the Palmetto United Methodist Church for almost 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl, brothers Huelon and Abner, and two sisters Margaret and Inez. She is survived by her son Earl F. “Rick” (Nell) Maeser, Jr. of Chickamauga, GA; and daughters Doris Manker of Ontario, OR; Barbara Maeser of Whittier, CA; Deborah “Debbie” (Bob) Pratico of Huntsville, AL. She has 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
