Doris Marlene Stewart was born on March 17, 1937 in Washington, DC, to Lawrence Jackson and Margret Green. She was educated in the Maryland Public School System and graduated from Fairmont Heights High School in Capitol Heights, MD, in 1955.
Doris was a dedicated and hard-working woman. She had a very rewarding career at the U.S. Department of Defense, where she received many awards. While working at the DoD, Doris started many friendships that would last throughout her life.
Doris was a devoted tithing member of the Westphalia United Methodist Church in Upper Marlboro, MD. Even when she could not attend, she did all that she could to stay connected with the church. While an active member, she was involved in the Women’s Choir. Most importantly, Doris was God-fearing woman and she shared her love of God with all that she knew.
Doris was known for her vivacious approach to life, her caring nature, and her ability to be straight forward with everyone. A natural comedian, she always had a joke for whoever was around. She was a perfectionist and liked for the things in her life to be neat and in order. She loved to go out and have a good time. Friday nights with the girls was always a good time for her. Doris was an avid card player and specifically loved playing Bid Whist. She was also known for her sense of fashion. She was always dressed in style with grace and class.
Doris went on to take her victory and be in peace with the Lord on April 18, 2014. Although she was sick, she was always full of life and maintained her vibrant spirit. She joined her parents, Lawrence Jackson and Margret Green; her sister, Janet Collier; her niece, Karen Wright; her cousin, Marsha (Susie) Lewis; and her daughter-in-law, Debra Edwards, in Zion.
Doris leaves to celebrate, honor, and remember her life, her son Roderick Edwards; her granddaughter, Brehanna Edwards; her lifelong friend, Sam Yeates; her nephew, Douglas (Tony) Wright; her niece, Bea Wright; her great nephews, Bryan Wright and Derrick Wright; her great nieces, Nikki Pillow and Timmeisha Garris; her goddaughter, Karen Jenkins; and a host of family, neighbors, and friends.
