Doris Mae Carroll, 84, of Elkhart, passed away after an extended illness at 3:20 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born in Ashley, Ohio, on Dec. 27, 1928, to the late Carl and Gladys (Rosecrans) Dollison.

Growing up, she was raised by her mother and her stepfather, Leon G. Hall, in Ashley.

She graduated from high school in Ashley in 1947, where she acquired her love for music and theater. She lived in several states during this time and made life-long friends in each.

She later married Albert B. “Al” Carroll Sr. on Jan 31, 1981, in Elkhart, where he passed away in 2010.

Surviving are her children, V. Scott (Dana) Selanders of Fishers, Daniel E. “Dan” Selanders of Phoenix and Sue (Eric) Gunderson of Elkhart; stepchildren Dennis (Mary) Carroll of Michigan City and Albert B. “Al” Jr. (Gina) Carroll and Linda Ahlene, both of Las Vegas; cousins Bonnie English of Fort Clinton, Ohio, and Judy (John) Cryer of Iowa City, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Doris spent most of her life working in several area retail stores, including G. L. Perry, until her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time cuddled up next to her little sidekick, “Sophie,” her yellow tabby cat.
