Doris Mae Arneson, the daughter of Eva (Elliott) and Floyd Bartley, was born September 26, 1940 at Red Cloud, Nebraska. She departed this life on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Arbors Memory Care Facility in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, 9 months 11 day.

Following her retirement in 2002, John and Doris returned to Red Cloud to make their home. She loved being around all of her close friends and having a coke with them. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also involved in a number of civic and community organizations including the Arts Council, the Red Cloud Womens Chamber, Chapter Y P.E.O. and the ABWA.

On June 20, 2013 Doris moved to the Arbors Memory Care Facility in Lincoln. She enjoyed participating in all of the activities there and always requested the song, ‘You Are My Sunshine.’ She considered the people there her family and came to call it home.

Better known as “Cork”, she never went without a smile or a kind word. She was a woman strong in her faith and was a true believer in happiness. Doris spent her happiest days surrounded by her loved ones and dear friends. Cork found comfort in taking care of others, especially John. She also spent a lot of time with her grandkids baking, eating ice cream and playhing old maid. Her house was always filled with love, laughter and full tummies is what she “strived” for. Doris lived a vibrant happy life and will always be our sunshine and in our hearts forever.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years, John; son Greg Arneson of Red Cloud; daughter Cristy Shockley of Red Cloud; daughter Kiley Schumacher and husband Lee of Lincoln, Nebraska; twelve grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a brother Wayne Bartley and wife Addie of Mesa, Arizona; sisters Elaine Niles and husband Darrell of Aurora, Nebraska and Karen Thayer and husband Jim of Hampton, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends.
