Doris Jean Kyhnell, of Anderson, IN passed away August 29, 2019. She was born on March 27, 1937 in Union City, Michigan. She married the love of her life, Jack Kyhnell on June 20, 1959 who survives. Doris graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Nursing. She began her career as a registered nurse for St. John’s Hospital in Anderson and taught nursing students there.

She was instrumental in the formation of Family Planning of Madison County and was the inaugural executor director before moving into the position of director of nursing in order to have direct contact with patients. Through continuing education, she went on to become a Nurse Practioner. Doris was a member of Central Christian Church, Pendleton Historical Society and Just Friends Dulcimer group. Music was a constant part of her life. She learned to play piano and organ at a young age and used that talent to play for several congregations including Markleville East Christian Church.

In addition to her musical talent, she enjoyed all types of crafts including quilting, polymer clay, tole painting, cake decorating, cross stitching, sewing, cooking, gardening and reading. She often used her sewing and crafting skills to benefit those in need. She made scarves for Haiti through the church and knitted hats for newborn babies. For 30 years, she and her husband treated their family to vacations which brought them great joy. For many years, she and Jack enjoyed spending several months each year in Kauai, Hawaii where they met many wonderful people.

Doris is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Jack Kyhnell; children, Anita (Sam) Aleshire, Linda (Jay) Higbee, Karl (Koreen) Kyhnell; grandchildren, Ashley (Greg Drake) Aleshire, Sarah Aleshire, Jayson (Joy) Higbee, Jacob Higbee, Kameron Kyhnell, Karson Kyhnell; great-grandchildren, Elsie Higbee, Lincoln Higbee, Oakley Drake; siblings, Phyliss Lewis, Kenneth (Teryl Hartman) Reed; sister-in-law, Janet Reed and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Florence Reed, brother, Keith Reed and brother-in-law, Frederick Lewis.
