Doris Jean Carl, 84, of Wataga, died at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 04, 2016 at Marigold Health Care and Rehab, Galesburg. Doris was born Doris Jean Basham in Galesburg, Illinois on September 7, 1931 the daughter of Andrell and Gineva Magee Basham. She married Francis Merideth and later Bill Carl. Doris is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Chuck) Hall of Ft. Myers, Florida; her fiancé, Don Carlson of Wataga; a brother, Chuck Basham of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Jerry and Mandy Andrews of Galesburg, Scott and Dee Hall of Woodhull, Dawn and Mitch Leezer and Jason Andrews both of Ft. Myers, Florida; her great grandchildren, Jessica, Ron, and Jacob Andrews of Ft. Myers, Florida, Libby, Lexi, and Landon Andrews of Galesburg; and one great great granddaughter, Lillian Perez of Ft. Myers, Florida.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Bill; her parents; two brothers, Bob Basham of Galesburg and Don Basham of Ft. Madison, Iowa; and an infant son, Billy Merideth.  Doris was educated in Galesburg. She worked at Rowe’s Mfg, Gale Products, HiLo Grocery, and as a food demo clerk at Hy-Vee Grocery in Galesburg. She and her late husband owned the Rustic Inn in Alpha for some time. Doris resided in Monmouth for most of her adult life, running and working in many restaurants over the years. She enjoyed traveling with the love of her life, Don Carlson and Bingo their dog in their travel trailer visiting the southern states as snowbirds.
