Doris Hollingsworth, age 82, of Dowagiac, died Monday, October 17, 2016 in Lakeland Medical Center in Saint Joseph, Michigan, in the peace and comfort of her family. She was born on March 15, 1934 in Belzoni, Mississippi to Excell and Geneva (Reeves) McGinnis, the eldest of six children. She married Ewells Hollingsworth on March 17, 1952 in Cass County, Michigan.

He preceded her in death on November 1, 1991. She was also preceded by her parents; two daughters, Chiquita Hollingsworth and Jackie Hawthorne; one son, Tracy Ewells Hollingsworth, Jr.; two brothers, James McGinnis and David Gordon, Jr.; and her chosen dad, Wilbert Gordon.Doris had a beautiful spirit. She was widely known for openness of heart and home. One of her most special attributes was that she would feed anyone and everyone. The source of her greatest joy was her children and extended family. Doris was a good story teller and enjoyed relating stories about her family.

She read her Bible every morning (especially Psalm 91) and enjoyed her soap operas. In addition, Doris was open and honest about her thoughts and feelings and will be remembered for her great, positive spirit that showed unconditional love for those around her as well as her fabulous, sweet potato pie. She was a faithful member of Connor Mayo AME Church in Dowagiac. She retired from Sunstrand after twenty two years.

Doris liked music and loved the blues. Doris will be greatly missed by family and friends. She leaves to cherish her memory her six children, Don (Sandra) Hollingsworth of South Bend, Kenneth (Dianne) Hollingsworth of Cedar Hill, Texas, Cynthia Hollingsworth of Dowagiac, Brian Hollingsworth of Niles, Deadria (Durrell, Sr.) Murray of Dowagiac, Torry Hollingsworth of Las Vegas; ten grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; two sisters, Yolanda Gordon of Eastpointe, Michigan, Faye Price of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother, Dr. Billi Gordon of Los Angeles, California; and a host of nieces and nephews.
