Doris Helene Kinney

1913 – 2009

Doris Helene Kinney passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at age 95 at Ft Walton Beach Medical Center in Fort Walton Beach, FL.

She was born on August 8, 1913 in Camden, New Jersey and was a longtime resident of Ft. Pierce, FL but spent the last five years with her loving husband of 69 years, Richard Kinney at Wellington Place in Fort Walton Beach.

Doris graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1936 and married Richard in 1939. They lived in Pittsburgh, PA, where they raised four daughters, until Dick was transferred to Caracas, Venezuela with Gulf Oil Corporation in 1967.  Dick retired in 1976 and they relocated to Ft Pierce, FL where their retirement years were spent enjoying their passions of bridge, boating and being involved members of the Pelican Yacht Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Edward B. Lyons and Bessie V. Donaldson; her husband, Richard J. Kinney and a grandson, Beecher Fenton Kirby, Jr.

She is survived by her four daughters, Sandra K. Hanson and husband Kieth of Webb Lake, WI; Doris J. Kinney of Bedford, TX; Nancy J. Kinney of Pittsburgh, PA; and Patricia K. Gross and husband Ronald of Shalimar, FL.

Other survivors include her five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, as well as twelve very special “YaYa daughters” who made a loving impact on her life this past year.

The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Wellington Place and to Dr. Sites and the staff at Magnolia Medical Clinic for their compassion and loving care of Mother.  And a very special “thank you” to her adored son-in-law, Ron, who accompanied her on trips to the doctors and craft shops, and who made her laugh!
