Doris Harleen Hawk passed away on Friday, February 6, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Newton. Doris was born and raised on a farm in the Barrett community of Kellogg, Iowa. She was the fourth child born to Elias and Marie (Davis) Madoll on June 8, 1924. She was a life time resident of the Kellogg area, except for five years in Newton, Iowa. Then returned to a farming operation north of Kellogg in 1962. She attended Kellogg Country Schools. Doris married George Hawk of Lovilla, Iowa on August 24, 1941 in Unionville, Missouri. Doris worked at Barett’s Bakery on the West side of the Newton Square and at the Saveway grocery store in the meat department also in Newton. She later worked and retired from Mid-West One Minute also known as Smith and Jones. She enjoyed watching her son and grandchildren race go-carts, going camping at the Knoxville Raceway, watching the family show mules, going to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sports games, watching TV and Soap Box shows, basketball and football games, doing circle word puzzles, and playing cards.
