Doris Gwendolyn Crawford was born to parents, General William Crawford and Gertrude Brown on July 29, 1945 in Selma, Alabama. Although she was the only child born to General and Gertrude Crawford, she had three adopted sisters, Martha Williams, Lillian Barrett and Rubye Miller.

She graduated from Hudson High School in 1962. She then attended Tennessee State University briefly.  After the death of her father, Gwen moved to Queens, New York, where she resided for almost 50 years. In 1974 she became employed with the New York City Police Department. She was a fingerprint technician. She was a specialist and was often required to give expert testimony in court cases. Her expertise in her field was even idolized when AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System), which is now used nationwide, was initiated into the N.Y.P.D. After 28 years of service with the N.Y.P.D, Doris retired. She spent her days vacationing, cruising and spending time with family and friends, caring for her children, grandchildren and great grandchild. 

Gwen was preceded in death by her niece, Jocelyn Miller; her granddaughter, Ericka Mungen; her great-grandson, Tymir Hall and her son, Terence Crawford.

She leaves to mourn her absence: two daughters, Nicole Gill of Decatur, and Kelli Enman (David) of New York; her grandchildren, Whitney Gill, Corbyn Gill, Jonathan Gill,
Tileese Lovett and Eric Enman; her great grandchildren, DeKhart Hall, Anjalese Lovett, Madison Gill and Jesler Lovett; and a host of cousins and extended family.
