Doris Pollard Galloway, 86, died Sunday, February 23, 2014, in Newnan, Georgia. She was born September 1, 1927, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Glennie Mae McBrayer Pollard & Roy Glen Pollard.
She attended Girls High in Atlanta, and graduated from Georgia State College for Women, in Milledgeville, GA in 1949. She taught Biology at Bass High School and Fulton High School, where she was a favorite teacher of her students. These students continued to stay in touch with her through the years and credit her for being influential in their development. She later taught high school Sunday School at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church in East Point, GA, providing girls a safe space in which to explore their experience as developing young women. She was confirmed as a member of the Episcopal Church at St. Luke’s in downtown Atlanta and then was active at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan when she and her husband, Olin, moved there after retirement. She was an avid painter and spent many hours and days in her studio bringing life to her paintings. She enjoyed her fellow artists in the Newnan area and looked forward to their common times.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Olin Galloway; her sons, David Galloway & wife Mary, Mitch Galloway & wife Cathy; six grandchildren, Thomas, Emily, Annie, Mary Glen, Grace, and John.
