Garaffa, Doris “Dot” 81 passed away on Sunday July 12 at the Arnold Walter Nursing Home. Born in Newark she resided there before moving to Union Beach over 40 years ago. Her leisure time was spent in Atlantic City with her family and friends. She was active with the PTA, PAL and was an elected member of the Union Beach School Board. She was also Co-Founder with her son Thomas of the Abyss Aids Foundation. A support organization for people afflicted with HIV and Aids.
She was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Catherine Garthwaite Thomas. Her husband Thomas Garaffa and son Thomas V. Sison. She is survived by her brother Edward “Pudgy” Thomas, Union Beach, Her son Ken Thomas , Anthem Arizona, daughter Joan Clayton, Largo Fl., daughter Linda Sison, Union Beach and daughters Carolyn and Marilyn from New Jersey. Dot is also survived by five grandchildren, many loving great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
