Doris was born, under a kitchen table, in a small country farm house, on August 27, 1935 in Lincolnton, North Carolina to Gibby and Rachel Rhyne.
Doris fell in love with, and married, a smooth-talking northerner named Lyle Richards (whom her mother did not like) and moved to Texas, where she would eventually raise two boys, Lem and Lyle Richards. There were other loves and husbands in her life, but those details are more appropriate for a TV mini-series.
She eventually moved back to North Carolina, where she worked for many years as a private, in-home caregiver for senior persons. When her mother was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, ever the selfless soul, Doris gave up her career to care for her.
After her mother’s death in 2013, Doris moved in with her son and daughter-in-law, Lyle and Dawn Richards, where she lent her much appreciated help to their three children, as only a grandmother can do.
Doris loved her family immensely, and she was especially proud of her grandchildren, whom she doted on tirelessly. She enjoyed watching football, playing cards, gardening, flea markets, ignoring established rules, hunting for sea shells, the mountains, and her First Baptist Church Indian Trail family.
Doris Ann Button entered into eternal rest on January 5th, 2015 at 11:10 PM from respiratory complications. She was 79. She was predeceased by her brother, Clayton Rhyne and son, Timothy Rhyne.
Doris is survived by her sons, Lyle Richards and wife, Dawn and Lem Richards and his partner, Brandon McWherter; and her five vivacious grandchildren, Dallas, Megan, Regan, Hayden, and Rachel.
