Doris Aileen VanCleve Burwell, age 89, of Greensboro and Marietta, Georgia, died Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.  Doris was born in Maumee, Ohio on November 30, 1929 to the late Marshall Theodore VanCleve and Cora Hawkins VanCleve.  She graduated from Maumee High School and later worked for Sun Trust Bank as a teller.  On September 4, 1949 she married Melvin Blaine Burwell Jr. who preceded her in death in 2014.  Over the years they lived in Rossford, Ohio, Laurinburg, NC, Clinton, NC, and Indiantown, Florida where they remained nearly twenty years and then moved to Greene County to be closer to family.  A former Greensboro resident, Doris was known locally as the “Candy Lady”. Her heavenly butterbrickle was joyously given to family, friends, employees at doctor’s offices, the grocery store, pest control, lawn maintenance and anyone who crossed her path.  She crocheted hundreds of beautiful afghans in all colors and sizes for family, friends and strangers.  She donated many to children in hospitals associated with The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, with which her son Steve is involved.  Her kindness and generosity will be greatly missed.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Burwell Artz and husband Duane of Greensboro, GA; son, Douglas Burwell and wife Marcia of Perrysburg, OH; and son, Steven Burwell and wife Morissa of Marietta, GA.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, Carrie Artz Selvey and husband Mike, Kristi Artz Slappey and husband Gordon, Jacquelyn Burwell Tiberio, Laura Burwell Failor and husband Rob, Melanie Burwell LaFayette and husband Levi, and Jason Burwell and six great grandchildren, Jean Slappey, Emma Slappey, Trenton Selvey, Colton Selvey, Hayden Tiberio and Mia Tiberio.  In addition to her husband, Melvin Burwell, she was preceded in death by grandson, Jeremy Burwell, son of Steven and Morissa.
