Doreen Elizabeth Yin Choy passed away on Christmas Day, 2021, in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Doreen, or “Moy” as she was affectionately called, was born on November 11th, 1939, to Ruby and Joseph Fong Lee in Kingston, Jamaica. After her mother’s passing, she was raised by her grandmother, Myrtle Forrester. She married Colin Yin Choy on June 19th, 1963, and remained married until her passing. They had one child, Howard, and one grandchild, Miles. They migrated to the United States in the late 60s and lived in Brooklyn, New York, for many years. There she worked at WNET/Channel 13 and Marvel Comics. She eventually relocated to Port St. Lucie, Florida, to enjoy her retirement years with her beloved Colin.
Those who knew Doreen will recall her vibrant personality, zest for life, and deep love for those she held dear to her. Always impeccably dressed and stylish as ever, Doreen always took pride in how she presented herself. Yet, those who knew and loved her know that beneath that polished exterior was a warm, kind, and generous spirit who loved hard and smiled often.
Doreen is survived by her husband Colin, her son Howard and his family, her brother Leroy, her sisters-in-law Dorothy and Eris, her brother-in-law Eugene, several nieces and nephews, and a host of other family members and friends too numerous to list. Preceding her in death was Myrtle Forrester (Grandmother), Ruby Fong Lee (Mother), Joseph Fong Lee (Father), Louis Fong Lee (brother), and Rosa (Chiquita) Burke (sister).
