Dorah (Saylor) Aukerman, age 85 of Midland made her journey to Heaven on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 to meet her Heavenly Father and to see her daughter Joannie Lorraine, whom she has longed to see for many years. She will also be greeted by three sisters, five brothers, parents and her husband Robert Max.
Dorah was born to the late Earl Oakley and Mable Isarea. (Woolcut) Saylor in Midland on February 2, 1931. She grew up on the property where the Hampton Inn on Eastman Road is now located. Dorah and her sisters walked downtown every Sunday to attend the Midland Nazarene Church. She spoke often of their walks to church and the happy memories in doing so. Dorah loved working outdoors and enjoyed the beautiful weather, referring to it as Heavenly. She had been employed at the former Nuclear Inn, Elliot’s Family Dinner, and Sideboard now known as Creek grill where she got the nickname Short Cake. As a Christian woman and exceptional worker she passed these values onto her daughters and grandchildren, always reminding them to work hard.
Dorah was a loving, caring, witty mother who will be greatly missed by her daughters, Diane Lynn (Dan) Woodcock and Victoria Sue Rider; as well as three grandchildren, JD Robert (Deanna) Farless, Adam Steve (Brittany) Rider and Megan Loraine Rider; and sister, Vera Lampherd.
