Donny Gene Moore was born August 3, 1932, in Nimmons, Arkansas, to Carl and Lillie Moore. He was one of five siblings”bettye, Billy, JoNell, Donny and Peggy. On September 3, 1977, he married Vicki Lynn Reid. On August 19, 1978, they had a son, Howell Reid Moore. He was a faithful member of the church of Christ and worshipped with the assembly that meets at 46 Old San Antonio Road in Boerne. Don lived much of his life in Missouri”Benton and St. Louis. As a young man he preached the gospel and lead singing for many different congregations in Kentucky where his family had moved when he was a senior in High School. He had stayed in Benton to finish his last year of school, living with the Rogers” family. After graduating from Benton High School, he moved to Kentucky. It was there that Don was drafted into the Army and attended basic training at Ft. Sam Houston and was stationed in Ft Louis Washington until he went to Germany. After being discharged from the Army, he went to Indianapolis Indiana, to attend the National Bank of Indianapolis banking school, a 5-year program. During his working career, he was affiliated with several banks and investment firms and retired from Farm and Home Savings in 1985. After “retirement”, Don preached the gospel in Missouri and Illinois. He and his family moved to Boerne in 1993. Don is survived by his wife, Vicki, and son Howell, Michelle, his “daughter” and three grandchildren, Reid, Chayton and Kaya; his sisters, bettye (Sam) and Peggy, and brother Billy (Dee) and a host of other loved ones and friends. He passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013. He will be buried at Ft Sam Houston on Friday, May 31, at 10:15 am. Don would have admonished us as Joshua of old did” “” to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and soul.” Joshua 22:5 “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil 4:13 The last scripture he read and taught in Wednesday night Bible study on May 22 was Hebrews 3.
