Donna Sue Wert, age 69 of Midland, a cancer victim, went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 22, 2009 while visiting her brother in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The second child of the late Roy R. and Hazel B. (Smith) Cottrill was born in rural Mt. Pleasant on December 14, 1939. She was a graduate of Shepherd High and also attended Delta College.
Donna married Raleigh L. Wert in 1968 and they made their home on Gordonville Road in Midland County for over 40 years. Raleigh preceded her in death last August. Survivors include her brother Roy Ross Cottrill of Tulsa; sister in law, Jeanette Johnson of Englewood, Florida; nephews and nieces include: Dr. Eric & Denise Cottrill and Stuart & Tammy Cottrill of Tulsa, Scott and Heather Johnson of the Ypsilanti vicinity, Renee Weston of Minnesota and a number of great nephews and nieces.
Donna’s special friends were Wes and Liam Raleigh Smith of Washington D.C.Having no children, she and Raleigh became devoted to each other and together volunteered for various clubs and organizations in the Midland region. Since they were both Amateur Radio Operators (HAM), their acreage outside of Midland was said to resemble an antenna farm. Radio was one of her primary hobbies; however caring for Raleigh in his later years became almost her full time job. Donna was supported by a host of friends and acquaintances throughout the area.
