Donna Fay (Myers) Markel, age 78 of LaGrange passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on October 31, 2022 at Cleveland Clinic main campus. She was very proud of being born on April Fool’s day on the family farm in LaGrange and was delivered by Doc Pelton and Grandma Forbush.
Growing up on a farm she was taught new responsibilities with every birthday. As a little girl, at age 11 she learned to drive a team of draft horses.
Donna was a 1962 graduate of Keystone High School and had taken computer classes as an adult at JVS. She met George Markel while she was in high school and married him in 1963.
Her heritage in the area is deep as she is related to the original settlers of LaGrange and Spencer.
She was a member of the LaGrange United Methodist Church and Faith Circle. Donna ran the Salvation Army service unit for LaGrange, was a VBS helper and was active with the Mats Matter program and had knitted over 30 mats for the homeless.
She is survived by her daughter Vickie (Charles) Evans of Penfield, son and caretaker Gregory Markel of LaGrange, Grandson Charles Jr (Holly) Evans of Spencer, Ohio and Great Grandchildren Charles III, Grace and Abbagail Evans.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband George in 2000 and brothers Ronnie, Al and Paul Myers.
The family requests guests wear purple as that was Donna’s favorite color.
