Donna Mae Briggs, 72, of LaFeria, Texas, and formerly of Virginia, IL died Thursday morning, April 23, 2009, at the home of her son in Champaign, Illinois. She was born November 2, 1936, the daughter of Leo and Leta Hawkins. She married Dean B. Briggs, on June 13, 1954, in Virginia, IL, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Steve Briggs (wife, Janice) of Jacksonville and Mark Briggs (wife, Janet) of Champaign: one daughter, Pam Hamilton (husband, Tom) of Quincy; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her sister Virginia Conner Purnell (husband Frank) of Bloomington.
Dean and Donna Briggs relocated to Texas 30 years ago after her husband’s early retirement from the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in LaFeria, Texas, and enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, and playing games with family and friends.
