Donna M. Myers of Sanford passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 12th in the early evening.
Donna was born in 1932 to Wilbur and Melba (Oster) Edgar in Alma, Michigan. She lived in Breckenridge until marrying her high school sweetheart, after which she moved to Sanford, Michigan, in a home that they built. She spent her time as a homemaker, raising her beloved daughter, Kelley. Donna is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Gerald “Gerry” Myers. She is survived by her daughter, Kelley Myers-Leonard of Sanford, granddaughter Kelsea (Jesse) Willoughby of Midland, and newborn great-grandson, Connor Willoughby, of Midland. Donna was a proud member of the United Church of Christ.
Donna was a fiery and outspoken soul and cherished all the more for it. She was a kind, compassionate, and caring person who always put others before herself and genuinely enjoyed doing so, whether that meant making everyone’s favorite foods during the holidays or crocheting an extra-long blanket to fit her 6’3” grandson-in-law comfortably. A proud and generous woman, Donna never faltered in her convictions and set an example for all those around her.
Donna enjoyed many things in life, from trying new recipes on unsuspecting victims (usually her late husband) to any craft involving thread or yarn. She loved spending time at their “Waterhouse” on Lake Superior, watching the freighters pass with a hot cup of coffee in one hand and a crossword puzzle in the other. To her, a good day was going to the casino and winning enough money to pay for her and her husband’s lunch. She took pride in her ability to make the world’s best pecan pie, answer almost every question during her nightly Jeopardy, and find the best deal on decorative items at the local thrift store. She could cook fresh fish on a gas stove in a camper like no one else and was passionate about watching sports, although basketball held a special place in her heart. Above all else, her greatest love was her family and her soulmate, Gerry.
