Donna Jean Sweet, age 91, passed away 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at the Crandall Medical Center in Sebring. She was born September 23, 1925 in Alliance, Ohio, a daughter of the late Donald Sr. and Edythe (Grall) Hole.

Donna was self-employed as a seamstress for 33 years, worked at the former Singer Sewing Co. in Salem and taught sewing classes.

Donna was a member of Salem First United Methodist Church (a member of the Methodist denomination since 1939), Salem Senior Citizens and had been selected as a Salem Senior Citizen of the Year, Salem Retirees Group, Fadely Guild of the Church and United Methodist Women of the Church, and volunteered at Salem Community Hospital. She collected items for the Shelter for Battered Women and she had a hat collection entitled HATS – HATS – AND MORE HATS, she had been in charge of the monthly programs and the Christmas parties for Salem Senior Citizens for many years, and presented programs for various groups.

Her husband John E. Sweet, Sr. whom she married December 16, 1944, preceded her in death on April 23, 1989. A brother, Donald Hole, Jr. also preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, John “Jack” E. (Lana) Sweet, Jr. of Columbiana and Dave N. (Kathy) Sweet of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Susan Geil of Kalamazoo, Michigan; three grandchildren, Amy Susan, Johnny Sweet and Jayna Perren; and 2 great grandchildren.
