Donna Jean Short passed away into eternity on January 1, 2011 at St. Luke’s RMC surrounded by loved ones.

She was born Donna Jean Ambrose on June 26, 1929 just minutes after her twin brother Donald. Donna grew up poor in Buhl, Idaho. It was the depression and times were hard. Donna found escape at school and in books. She always excelled at spelling and hated math. In 1946 Donna and four of her friends went to the Valentine’s Day Dance where they met a handsome Marine just returned from WWII. This charmer asked the five girls if any of them wanted a ride home in his convertible. All five girls raised their hands. Donna was the last of the girls dropped off. Cecil saved the best for last. Donna married Cecil Roy Short on June 27, 1946. She was 17 but fibbed and said she was 18.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, William Beryle Ambrose and Rebecca May Betterton; her stepfather, William Noah Betterton; and two brothers, Alden and Donald. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Roy Short; their children, Max Edward, Jackie Louise, William Roy, and Debra Jean; grandchildren, Susan, Adam, Merilee, Sheri, Russell, Curtis, Daryl, Kris, Jesse, Jared, James, and Melanie; 32 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.
