Donna Jean (Kingbird) Lewis, age 54, Ojibwe name Migizi-Ikwe meaning Eagle Woman, of Ponemah, MN, began her spiritual journey on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at the Jourdain Perpich Extended Care Center in Red Lake, MN, with her family by her side.

Donna was born on July 15, 1965, in Red Lake, MN, the daughter of the late Jack and Lucille (Downfeather) Kingbird, Sr.  She was raised in Red Lake and graduated from Red Lake High School.  Afterwards, she left to go to culinary school and worked at the casino in Thief River Falls as head chef and then housekeeping.

In her free time Donna loved to cook especially fry bread.  She made beadwork and regalia and dance at powwow as a jingle dress dancer and enjoyed going to the casino. Most of all though, she cherished being with her family and taking care of her grandchildren.

Donna is greeted on her journey by her parents, Jack and Lucille Kingbird, Sr.; son, Dewayne Lewis, Jr.; brothers, Ronnie Kingbird, Edmund Kingbird, Gerald Kingbird, Harold Kingbird, and Howard Whitefeather; nephew, Leo Kingbird, Sr.; and nieces, Lucinda and Stephanie Caldwell; as well as many more nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Carl and Kyle Kingbird; daughter, Brittaney Lewis; 18 grandchildren; brothers, Jack Jr. (Debbie), Willard Sr. (Andrea), Darrell (Andrea), and Curtis (Shawnee) Kingbird and Spencer Whitefeather; and sisters, Doris Kingbird, Phyllis (Paul) Smith, and Irene Weiss; as well as the rest of her extended family.
