Donna Jean Johnson was born July 2, 1932 to Roy and Myrtle (Barnes) Melendy in Nebraska. Later her family moved to Colorado where she attended Sterling High School, and graduated in 1949. She continued her education at Northeastern Junior College where she met her husband, Wilmer Johnson. After she graduated from NJC, she married the love of her life on June 17, 1951. In the following years, their family grew with a son and daughter, Bruce and Barb. In addition to raising a family, she completed her teaching degree and went into teaching for many years and loved it. After she retired, she was involved in various community and church groups.
She was continually working behind the scenes encouraging through cards and gifts. Donna especially enjoyed traveling all over the world with family and friends. Her grandkids and great-grandkids held a special place in her heart. Through joys and trials her faith was her guiding light and gave her and her family much comfort in her last days.
Donna was preceded in death by her father (Roy), mother (Myrtle), and brother (Ken Melendy).
She is survived by her husband, Wilmer, son Bruce and daughter-in-law Kay Johnson of Ft. Collins, daughter Barb and son-in-law Brett Nelson of Atwood, four grandkids Mary (Jason) Harryman, Laura (Andrew) Moore, Matt Johnson, and Mark (Danielle) Nelson, six great-grandkids, Paisley, Madeline, Oliver, Ryder, Everett, and Graham.
The work of caring for others and reaching the lost was always a part of her life. Her family asks that if you are so moved, donations may be made to the Hospice of the Plains or First Baptist Church in her memory.
