Donna Dee Harwood, age 82, passed away Aug. 3, 2011 at a local care center in Boise.
Donna was born in the family home living room (along with twin brother Donald) on June 2, 1929 to Delilah (Paulsen) Gerard, in Lewisville, Idaho. Donna, Donald and older brother Kenneth were then raised there. They have told many funny stories over the years about growing up on the farm! Donna was very active throughout her school years and fostered great relationships. Early on, she demonstrated her love for volunteerism. At the age of 10, she once told us she was proud to be a part of the 4-H Girls Band, where they used pots and pans as musical instruments and performed at fairs around the community. What fun she had. Donna graduated from Midway High School in May 1947. She then attended and graduated from the Idaho Falls School of Business.
Donna met her future husband and became Mrs. Pat Harwood on July 2, 1953. In September of that year, Pat joined the Army and was trained/stationed at Fort Ord in California. Donna stayed back in Rigby where they made their home for the next several years. Pat traveled back and forth until 1959 when he completed his commitment and began to take on new adventures back in his hometown of Rigby. The couple kept quite busy working and raising a family of 3 children.
In 1978, Donna and Pat moved the family to Boise where Pat presided at the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry. Donna expanded her responsibilities to the state level, while continuing to volunteer at the Caldwell Hospital assisting families of surgery patients. Later, she worked for Sweetheart Manor and made great friends who she continued to meet for lunch for many years. After a number of years at Sweetheart, she left to care for her husband Pat full time when his health declined.
Donna is pre-deceased by her husband Pat Harwood, her parents Douglas and Dee Gerard, and a brother Kenneth. Donna is survived by her children – Sherry Iverson (Jerry), Kirk Harwood (Kay), and Brad Harwood, all of Boise; her grand children, Deedra Stith (Daric), Andrea Iverson, Kole Harwood and Kameron Harwood; her twin brother Donald Gerard (Joyce) of Idaho Falls, sister-in-law Edna Gerard (Iona, Idaho) and many nieces and nephews.
