Donald Wayne Lutes Sr., 85, of Peru, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 6, 2021, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center, Rockford as he anxiously awaited the joyful reunion with his mother who passed away when he was only four months old. Lutes was born August 29, 1936, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas to Forrest E. and Grace A. (Babington) Lutes.

He graduated from John Swaney High School in 1956. He married Mary Ann Reaska on August 26, 1960, at Magnolia United Methodist Church. Together, they celebrated 61 years of marriage. Mr. Lutes served in the United States Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance from 1958 to 1962. After serving his country, he worked as a farmer in Missouri and Illinois and later worked as a diesel mechanic for 20 years at Air Products and Chemicals in LaSalle.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann of Peru; his children, Dawnette (John) Mignone of Peru, Donald Lutes Jr. of Peru, Dalene (John) Sweezey of Spring Valley, and Danelle Lutes-Baker of Iowa; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, John Lutes of Missouri and a sister, Elizabeth Okerberg of Chillicothe, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Forrest Jr., William and Silas Benton Lutes, and four sisters, Jeanette Gall, Donna Witko, Dorothy Rogers, and Leona Owenby.
