BJORK, Mr. Donald W. of Vicksburg, Michigan died Saturday morning February 15, 2014. Donald was born September 14, 1943 in Lansing, Illinois a son of John and Harriett Curran Bjork. He was raised in Hammond, Indiana, and lived most of his life in the Kalamazoo area. He loved anything with an engine, including motorcycles, snowmobiles, boats, golf carts, new cars, and Classic cars.
He enjoyed working with wood, and designed the plans for his home, as well as finishing the interior of his home. He also loved to play at the cabin he completed up north and spent many happy years there with his family and friends. In early years he worked as a builder, later becoming a partner in business, owning Laundromats in Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and Vicksburg. For the last 25 years, he attended the huge car auction in Auburn, IN every fall. In recent years, he took his motor home to the spring auction as well. Each year was a reunion with folks he met there over the years. Family and good buddies joined him, and he was always on the lookout for a Mustang of his favorite year. So much fun and so many cars.
He taped every Indy 500 race from 1969 to 2013, attending many races in earlier years. On August 7, 1971, he was united in marriage to Karen Carpenter Bjork his wife of 42 years who survives. Also surviving, his son, Travis Bjork Dawn of Vicksburg, his daughter, Sherri Robinson Kevin of Austin, TX; 4 grandchildren, Alex Bjork, Andrew Robinson, Skyler Robinson, and Ashton Bjork; 4 stepchildren, Marti Berry Norm, Cheryl Blastick Rick, Daniel Lowe, and Julia Lowe; 9 step grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren; and his adoring pets, Abby and Albert.
