Donald Leroy Unger, of Frizzellburg, MD, passed away at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the age of 79, of complications from diabetes and renal failure. Born in Taneytown on September 6, 1937, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen Eyler Unger. He was the husband of Shirley Wantz Unger, to whom he was married for 40 years.
Don taught high school English in Carroll and Frederick Counties for 30 years. He was a graduate of Taneytown High School, class of ’57. He was also a graduate of Frostburg College and earned his Masters Degree at the University of West Virginia. He was a member of Frizzellburg Bible Church, and was a contributor and volunteer at the Taneytown Heritage & History Museum. He loved flower gardening, art, and collecting bird carvings.
Surviving in addition to his wife are brother, Robert Unger and wife Janet of Emmitsburg; aunt, Irene Unger of Taneytown; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Charles Jr., James, and William Unger, and sister, Arlene Bollinger.
